POTENTIAL ADOPTERS: As you will see from the samples below, Chinese Shar-pei come in all sort of colors, coats, and types. From the classic old style horsecoat to the more current heavily wrinkled brushcoat, these dogs are all one breed that deserve equal attention when it comes to evaluating adoptability and placement potential. Current health and condition may vary according to previous care and owner knowledge. Temperaments may also vary from the original aloof guard dog that thrives on active sports, to the laid back couch potato who rarely spends more than a few minutes a day on physical activity. We recommend all potential adopters keep an open mind and study the breed history and standard before making a final decision to adopt one of these needy animals. Both purebred and mixes are available in this network. All adopted animals must be spayed / neutered and up to date on medical to be listed in our network.

pers-oph Persephonie (Shar Pei) & Ophelia: They're very low key and would be great in a elderly persons home. The girls would alert to someone at the door and be great company for an older person. But they would love any home where they could hang out inside out of the heat. They must go together!! We couldn't bear to separate them.

Smokey Star: was surrendered to animal control pregnant. This sweet girl is about 1 1/2 years old and had given birth to 8 beautiful puppies; 4 girls & 4 boys. They all have been adopted. It's her turn now. She had been a great mom and deserves a forever home. After all she's been through, our pretty girl is entitled. Star is currently in a boarding kennel. She needs to be part of a family. Please help us find a home for her!

NEWBURGH, NEW YORK
FOR ADOPTION BY OWNER: For the past few weeks I have been trying to place two adult Sharpei's that belong to my mother. She has been placed in Hospice and I am not able to care for both dogs. I have tried locating the original breeders (someone had told me some breeders may take their dogs back), but my mother cannot remember what she did with the AKC papers, I have had no luck short of calling every breeder in Ohio & Florida. I have reached out to a rescue shelter in Binghamton, but she will not take surrendered dogs. With my mom only having a few months left to live I am in serious need of relocating her two dogs.

Taleulah is a black colored female and is 4 years old. She is spayed and up to date on all of her vaccines. She loves to be walked on her leash in the park, but is nervous around new people. I have been working with her and she is learning, but a patient person who is great with a dog would find her ideal. She is fine with children and other small animals, but needs time to adjust to them when first introduced. She does get along with other dogs, but needs constant love, so a home that could dote on her would be beneficial. She does need some manners training - learning to sit, not jump on the furniture, and learning to not pull when walked on her leash; but learns quickly and responds to your voice. She is wonderfully tempered and loves to sit close and be petted.

Winston is a fawn/tan colored male is @ 4 years old. He is neutered and up to date on all shots. He is wonderful on a leash and is curious about his environment, so someone who is a hiker or loves to take long walks would find this dog to be a perfect companion. He is eager to please and is waiting for someone to give him direction so he can be a good dog. He does tolerate female dogs, but chooses to not really be social with them - however, he does not take to other male dogs. He is a wonderful dog and has recently spent the night with a dog handler and she has had nothing but wonderful things to say about him (her number can be supplied as a reference).

Both dogs are AKC registered, have all of their paperwork and most up to date vet information - they are treated by West End Vet in Newburgh, NY. They are also housebroken and do not chew or destroy anything in the home.

Please e-mail Tiffany Ray or call 845-542-0219 for more information.

Mary Christmas: her rescuer is currently recovering from surgery and not actively rescuing at this time, just maintaining all her personal and foster pets until she's back on her feet. Mary is a female mix (maybe with black lab) dropped off in her yard christmas morning, hence the name. She has been fully vetted. I hope her many wrinkles show up in these photos. She is probably not even a year old, very playful.

Ming: URGENT 13 year old female in need of a new home. Ming is a full bred shar-pei (we have her papers) and even though she is 13, she is still very lively and in a lot of ways still part of my family. She had been given to family whom live in an apartment where size of the dog is restricted and they can no longer keep her. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. She is crate trained and housetrained and gets along with other dogs. She is currently staying with a friend, but can only stay there for a week( until Sept 7).

Please email Kerri Cooper or call 610-405-1650 or 484-467-3514 for more information.

FORT WORTH, TEXAS
Meaty: 8-10 month old male mix about 45 pounds. I have been neutered and up to date on all vaccinations. I'm a sweetie that likes belly rubs and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to give kisses! I like to run so I am hoping to find a family that will have kids for me to play with or a family that has other medium to large size dogs. I'd be a great dog for a single guy too. I like to chase smaller animals especially cats so I don't think I should live with any. I am housetrained and crate trained, and am looking for an indoor home to love and provide me a permanent home.

Please email Merrick Roach or call 817-812-7449 for more information.

NEWPORT, VIRGINIA
Pudge: large young male mix. The nice people at Dogs Deserve Better rescued me from a shelter where I had been locked in a cage for a month. I heard the shelter people saying that they were going to kill me if someone didn't come and get me. Thank you Dogs Deserve Better for saving my life. Maybe why no one wanted me was because I had sick eye. They told me I had a cherry eye. My nice foster mommy took me to have my eye fixed on September 17th, 2009. Boy, does it feel better! My foster mommy said I was pretty no matter what. I am just so happy that I my life was saved and my eye doesn't hurt anymore, that I smile all of the time. I love to snuggle, kiss, play and love being a part of a family. Mostly, I am very quiet and laid back. I am pretty strong, maybe that is why my foster mommy puts a harness on me for walks. The harness feels much better than have something tight on my neck. I like to play with my girlfriends, but not a big fan of the boy dogs. My foster mommy wished she could keep me, I wish I could stay too! But mommy already has lots of other doggies that she needs to help, like she helped me. If you will bring me into your family I promise to be loyal, kind, and will love you forever and ever!

Please email Shannon for more details or fill out the adoption application.

Terms of Chinese Shar-Pei Adoptions: ( What's New?? adoption recap )

Long term, stable, loving, indoor companion relationships are expected with all adoptions. Please read this article regarding responsible pet ownership for the pros and cons to adding a pet to your family. We do not support "animal brokering" and both collectors and sporting agents are discouraged from applying. We also discourage the public adoption of terminal or sickly dogs that have not been properly treated for expensive issues such as entropion, heartworms, bone deformities, skin disease, or serious allergies, unless the new owner is fully aware of the potential consequences and financial drain of such ventures. Temperament evaluations are the private liability of the rescuer and adopter. While some dogs may become better managed with obedience and behavior modification, nobody can completely change or remove an adult dog's natural tendencies for aggression or submission. Applicants and adopters have the rights to all known history disclosure and the option to reject unsuitable matches. All dogs over 6 months old must be spayed / neutered prior to adoption. Choosing an appropriate new home is both the moral and legal obligation of the current owner / acting rescue agent. Please keep in mind the best interest of these needy animals and the homes that want to love them. Learn before you "adopt" to prevent another unnecessary rehoming situation in the future.
