POTENTIAL ADOPTERS: (Please fill out our online adoption form before you leave.) As you will see from the samples below, Chinese Shar-pei come in all sort of colors, coats, and types. From the classic old style horsecoat to the more current heavily wrinkled brushcoat, these dogs are all one breed that deserve equal attention when it comes to evaluating adoptability and placement potential. Current health and condition may vary according to previous care and owner knowledge. Temperaments may also vary from the original aloof guard dog that thrives on active sports, to the laid back couch potato who rarely spends more than a few minutes a day on physical activity. We recommend all potential adopters keep an open mind and study the breed history and standard before making a final decision to adopt one of these needy animals. Both purebred and mixes are available in this network. Long term, stable, loving, indoor companion relationships are expected with all adoptions. Please read this article regarding responsible pet ownership for the pros and cons to adding a pet to your family. Both collectors and sporting agents are discouraged from applying. We also discourage the public adoption of terminal or sickly dogs that have not been properly treated for expensive issues such as entropion, heartworms, bone deformities, skin disease, or serious allergies, unless the new owner is fully aware of the potential consequences and financial drain of such ventures. Temperament evaluations are the private liability of the rescuer and adopter. While some dogs may become better managed with obedience and behavior modification, nobody can completely change or remove an adult dog's natural tendencies for aggression or submission. Applicants and adopters have the rights to all known history disclosure and the option to reject unsuitable matches. All dogs over 6 months old must be spayed / neutered prior to adoption. Choosing an appropriate new home is both the moral and legal obligation of the current owner / acting rescue agent. Please keep in mind the best interest of these needy animals and the homes that want to love them. Learn before you "adopt" to prevent another unnecessary rehoming situation in the future.
