Ronnie - (DOB 11/08/06 CKC reg.name Ronald Trooper) 3 year old registered five point red dilute male horsecoat that was rescued from Lincoln County shelter in North Carolina with his mom, Lea. Ronnie was very emaciated, had heartworms, and was in need of entropion surgery. Ronnie has completed all his rehabilitation and is now available for rehoming to the right family. At 60 pounds of pure muscle, his "tank like" stature and sweet mellow temperament attract both macho and gentle pet owners alike. Due to prior emaciation, Ronnie can be very food motivated and excitable, making him not suitable for homes with small children. He has remained healthy on Blue Basics Salmon and Sweet Potato dog food that can be purchased at Petsmart, and he should continue a restricted diet of "only dog food" to prevent any IBD relapse. Ronnie requires firm handling and alpha leadership to maintain control when needed. Other times, he's very mellow and loves his belly rubbed, and will cuddle on the couch with you. He's looking for someone wanting an active companion that likes attention but is still crateable and can be left alone. With proper food management and introductions, he gets along with most other dogs, but no cats or other small animals.

Candy - 5-6 year old adult fawn brushcoat female surrendered by a Virginia breeder to a local samaritan who then called us to help find her a new home. Hopefully we'll have a better picture of what needs to be taken care of sometime in the near future, but primarily, Candy's teeth are in really bad shape and she has several suspicious lumps that need to be biopsied. She's obviously been bred multiple times, but is the most loving dog we've rescued in a long time, and resoundingly deserves a second chance at a loving pet home that will cherish the rest of her days.
8/26/10 UPDATE - Candy made it through surgery just fine...she's home resting comfortably. Her ovaries were swollen with fibroids, she's shaved in 8 other places to remove tumors and skin tags, and lost both her pre-molars. Two of the largest tumors are being sent out for evaluation, but everything that was aspirated today came up clean. The vet was wonderful and only charged us for 1 lumpectomy, but her bill was still nearly $600 today.
9/1/10 UPDATE - Candy's prognosis was confirmed, all tumors were benign and there's no threat of cancer. She's obviously feeling better, and gracing us with a playful romp around the yard with Ronnie a few minutes each day as well. (See Candy 2 video for a recent romp with Ronnie). Candy's only vice remaining from her previous life is she can be defensive around new animals, but with Ronnie's help, is feeling more secure about playing and interaction, and with proper introduction and time, can learn to accept other animals as well. She absolutely loves all people she's met so far, both young and old.
If you have a little you can donate towards Candy's recovery, please visit Shar-pei Rescue of Virginia for more information.
