Liza Jane: young female Shar-pei brindle mix born around November 2007. As of July 23, 2008, she is between 17-18 inches tall and 30 pounds. She is a very happy dog that puts a smile on everyone's face that meets her. She has a very curious and sensitive personality, and is always alert and ready for a good time - playing with toys, people of all ages, and other dogs. She has thrived since coming into our foster family "pack" environment that includes our older children and dogs, and appears she will remain submissive enough to get along with just about any breed of dog as long as they also like to play.

While Liza still has many Pei features of the more traditional Pei, it's been very difficult to determine exactly what other breed(s) she may have in her bloodline, but after 4 months of watching her mature while in rescue, we believe she will remain a petite and fine boned little girl. She's slender like a small greyhound and likes chase outdoor small animals, playfully uses her front paws like a boxer, yet also likes to dig and track like a hunting dog, as well as has the high energy and stamina level more commonly seen in working dogs - like border collies or cattle dogs. We recently met a wonderful couple with a Puggle that are considering fostering to adopt Liza, and though Liza is taller, her combined behavioral traits sound very similar to her new Puggle friend.

Whatever breed combination may be, Liza's new home will need to be ready and willing to provide lots of interaction and daily exercise leash walking or jogging, and playing games such as fetch, frisbee, or soccer. We believe she could have great potential for agility, Frisbee, flyball, lure coursing, or other outdoor active dog sports. Despite her constant playfulness, Liza can still be crated and settles nicely when we needed her to during the day. We have also noted that Liza eats like a young puppy still, and does best if she can eat a few small meals a day. Though she is an indoor dog, she also enjoys an outdoor fenced yard frequently to satisfy both her neighborhood curiosities and bathroom needs. Liza is up to date on vaccinations, has been spayed, and is currently receiving all preventative care necessary to keep her as healthy and happy as we can until she finds her new home.

Liza Jane is currently located in Portsmouth, VA. Please email Tina Wissen or call 757-638-9326 with any other questions. The first step to adopting any foster dog is to fill out an application form from the Shar-pei Rescue of VA - NJ .
